JUNIOR CHOIR
Ms. LisaJunior Choir ~ B Class
Grades 3rd - 5th |
Lisa Shih, B.A. in Music
Piano, Vocal, and Music Theory Instructor | Special Needs Music Educator | MTAC Member Ms. Lisa Shih earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from California State University, Fullerton, in 2007. During her time at CSUF, she focused her academic research on the benefits of music therapy for individuals with disabilities, culminating in her senior thesis, “How Does Music Help People with Special Needs Based on Music Therapy?” This research combined scholarly review with real-world applications, driven by her growing interest in inclusive education and the therapeutic power of music. Although Shih began her music education as a pianist, she discovered a deep love for singing at a young age. She began performing with concert choirs in junior high and continued through college, where she served as section leader in her university choir. These experiences shaped her passion for vocal pedagogy and ensemble performance. During her undergraduate years, she also conducted classroom observations in the Irvine and Brea Unified School Districts, further refining her instructional approach. In addition, she assisted in a summer school music program where she helped prepare and produce a full musical in just six weeks, gaining valuable experience in classroom management, rehearsal direction, and student engagement. Today, Lisa Shih is a dedicated private music instructor based in Chino Hills, California, where she teaches voice, piano, and music theory to students of all ages and levels. She is an active member of the Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC), Diamond Bar Branch, and remains committed to professional development and community involvement. Her students regularly participate in local and statewide competitions, festivals, and standardized assessments such as the Certificate of Merit, consistently receiving high marks and awards. Lisa believes that music education should be accessible, expressive, and tailored to each student’s unique learning style and goals. Whether preparing students for auditions, recitals, or competitions—or helping a special needs student find confidence and joy through music—Shih brings empathy, structure, and creativity to every lesson. |
